1910 Building History
The building where McGinty Motorcars currently calls home is located in Penn's Common Historic District. It was erected in 1910 by the City of Reading as a horse drawn trolley depot. When the electric trolleys came to Reading the building was sold and converted into the Oldsmobile Company of Reading which operated from 1921-1945. Various other businesses took residence at this location through the years but by the 1990's the building was beginning to show its age and in need of some serious TLC. Â
In 2006 Fred and Shelly Baker purchased the property and from 2006-2008 worked extensively to restore, renovate and upgrade the building to bring it back to its full potential that we see today. In April of 2022, Pat and Courtney McGinty purchased the property with the vision and dream of starting McGinty Motorcars.Â
The building boasts nearly 6,100 sf of garage space plus a 1,000 sf showroom and office. The shop is 39' by 140' with a 30' two-tier roof, vintage steel frame with 1,152 panes of glass. Recently a steel staircase was added to utilize the loft area for storing parts and materials.Â
Pat and Courtney have hand-selected antiques, and collectibles to furnish the space and enhance and complement its amazing architectural character. Stop by today and allow the wave of nostalgia to sweep over you as you tour this beautiful space. Â
